
Residents in Tarrant County are on high alert as reports flood in about a scam involving fraudulent phone calls from individuals posing as members of the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department. The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office informed the public via social media about the con artists who are falsely claiming that the call recipients have outstanding fines for missing jury duty or court dates, and they are instructed to wire money to cover these fabricated expenses.
The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office issued a clear warning, stating, "Please be advised this is a SCAM!" in their communiqué, they emphasized that under no circumstances does the office call individuals to demand payment over the phone for warrants, nor do they request money transfers through gift cards or apps such as Zelle or CashApp, it is clear that the swindlers have become adept, feeding on the fears and uncertainties of the citizens.
This scam has become a quintessential example of modern deception, taking advantage of technology and the veil of anonymity that it provides the perpetrators.
