Residents of Memphis who utilize the Driver Services self-service kiosks will be taking a short break from this amenity soon. According to a statement from the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, the kiosks at three Memphis Police Department locations will close temporarily for equipment upgrades beginning Monday. Kiosks at the Appling Farms Station on Appling Farms Parkway, the Tillman Station on Tillman Street, and the Mt. Moriah Station on Mt. Moriah Road are all affected.

The closures are not expected to disrupt services for long, with all locations anticipated to resume operation on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. During this time, upgrades to the self-service kiosks will facilitate an expanded range of functionalities. These include the issuing and renewal of Driver Licenses and ID Cards, address updates, changes to emergency contact information, steps forward in the Teen/Graduated Driver License process, payment of reinstatement fees, and requesting license reissue post-reinstatement. The enhanced kiosks will now take photographs for identification purposes and allow payment through modern methods like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and credit or debit card transactions. These improvements aim to streamline the process of managing one's driving records and identification, reducing wait times and increasing the convenience for users.

During the interim period, Memphis residents who require Driver Services can visit other TDOSHS locations or complete eligible transactions online—where services remain uninterrupted. For a full list of services and alternative locations, individuals can refer to the Department's official website. This upgrade represents the Department's commitment to integrating technology for more efficient public service delivery and ensuring that the tools citizens rely upon are not relics of a swiftly retreating past but instruments attuned to the demands of the present.
