A collision in Bloomfield last night resulted in injuries to three people after an SUV struck a pedestrian, a utility pole, and a tree before crashing into an apartment complex. The incident occurred near the intersection of Liberty Avenue and Baum Boulevard, right outside the Albion at Morrow Park apartments, around 5:30 p.m.
According to WPXI, the SUV driver was navigating toward Shadyside when his vehicle's gas pedal allegedly got stuck. Emergency teams responded promptly to the scene to provide assistance and manage the chaos wrought by the crash. The driver and his female passenger were subsequently taken to a local hospital and reported to be stable.
The pedestrian, who was hit during the series of collisions, was also hospitalized but is said to be in stable condition. Pittsburgh police have indicated that no charges are expected at this time. The area around the crash scene was likely congested as crews worked to clear the wreckage and repair the damaged utility infrastructure.
WTAE reported further details about the incident, stating that the driver had to be extricated from the SUV before being transported to the hospital. The same report confirmed that the pedestrian was struck before the vehicle aggressively collided with the apartment building. Investigations into the circumstances leading up to the crash are ongoing as officials look to determine the exact cause of the gas pedal malfunction.
