A 30-year-old moped rider died in a crash late last night in Waikiki after his vehicle collided with an unoccupied city bus. The accident occurred on Monsarrat Avenue, near Kapiolani Park and the Honolulu Zoo, around 9:45 p.m., as reported by Hawaii News Now.
Authorities disclosed that the rider, traveling eastbound, rear-ended the parked bus, leading to him being pinned beneath the rear. Despite efforts quickly to extract him by emergency personnel, he was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He did not survive the injuries sustained in the crash, according to information obtained by Island News.
The victim was noted to have not been wearing a helmet when the incident took place. The initial reports from the scene suggested that alcohol might have played a role in the accident. However, it remains unclear if other factors, such as speed or drugs, were contributory, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
