Tragedy unfolded in the quiet town of Kingsland this past Tuesday evening, resulting in two fatalities believed to be the result of a murder-suicide. According to a report by FOX 7 Austin, the Llano County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distressing 911 call from a woman who stated she had locked herself and her four-year-old daughter inside her home after multiple shots were heard.
Arriving deputies were met with the eerie silence of uncertainty, punctuated by two gunshots from the front yard, where they later discovered two men deceased, each with gunshot wounds. Trying to make contact with the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Jon Kendrick, law enforcement approached the scene with caution, although it was dark outside and trees obstructed the view.
Fear and confusion rippled through the community, as recounted by residents speaking to FOX 7 Austin. Elizabeth Lemon, returning from picking up her daughter from school, was confronted with closed streets and a heavy police presence without knowing what had transpired. Meanwhile, another local, Dalia Ixek, expressed the anxiety felt by residents: "All of a sudden, you hear those shots, and you’re thinking what happened?" Genesis Xagada, a child from the neighborhood, voiced her fears as well, emphasizing the event's impact on the community's feeling of safety.
In a press release detailed by Yahoo News, the sheriff’s office confirmed the deceased suspect as Jon Kendrick. Despite Kendrick's identification, the name of the second man found has been withheld, pending notification of next of kin. Granite Shoals and Sunrise Beach Police Departments, along with Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, also responded to the tragic scene, where the caller and her daughter were later found unharmed.
The investigation remains open as the Llano County Sheriff’s Office is working to ensure no other individuals were involved in this incident.
