Two men tragically lost their lives in a collision on Interstate 71 in Medina County on the evening of Halloween, authorities reported. The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the accident just past 10 p.m. near milepost 206 in Westfield Township. As detailed by FOX8, the events began when a Volvo commercial vehicle stalled in the right lane and was subsequently hit from behind by a 2018 Chevrolet Trax.
The force of the initial impact was compounded when an unidentified third vehicle, believed to be a maroon or red commercial truck, collided with the Volvo and then fled the scene, as WKYC reports. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is seeking this vehicle and actively trying to identify and locate the driver involved in the incident.
Both drivers, Mark McGraw, 73, of West Salem, who was behind the wheel of the Chevrolet, and Daved Brown, 68, from Cincinnati, driving the Volvo, was pronounced dead at the scene. Their unfortunate passing marks another sad reminder of the sudden turns and missed exits on the highway of life. The Ohio State Highway Patrol received assistance from local sheriff's departments, fire and EMS teams, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and a towing service as they navigated the aftermath of the crash.
The ongoing investigation into the crash seeks to piece together the events that led to these untimely deaths, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol has urged anyone with information about the red commercial vehicle to contact their Medina post immediately. "OSHP is asking anyone with information on the maroon-colored commercial vehicle to call the Medina Post at 330-725-4921," detailed a statement obtained by WKYC.
