An incident unfolded on Sunday night as two people lost their lives in a collision on Highway 6 near Briar Forest Drive in west Houston. Responding to the incident were Houston police and fire crews, who arrived on scene shortly after 11:40 p.m., as reported by Click2Houston.
The incident began when a white Crown Victoria, traveling westbound on Briar Forest Drive, made a right turn but instead of heading in the intended direction, it entered the southbound lanes of SH 6 while traveling north. Shortly after, the Crown Victoria collided head-on with a black Mercedes, which contained three occupants. A rear-seat passenger in the Mercedes and the driver of the Crown Victoria were both pronounced dead at the scene, KHOU report details.
After the initial crash, a third vehicle, a Toyota, struck the already damaged Mercedes. The driver of the Toyota was not injured in the secondary collision. The two survivors from the Mercedes were transported to the hospital, and the severity of their injuries is currently unknown.
The investigation by Houston authorities is ongoing as they work to reconstruct the crash and determine whether intoxication was a factor. Evidence found in the Crown Victoria suggests that it may have played a role. "While that crash was going and people were getting out of their vehicle, we had a Toyota that was also headed southbound in the northbound lanes who struck the Mercedes, causing more injuries," Sgt. Dallas, from HPD's Vehicular Crimes Division, conveyed this information to KHOU.
