This morning, an alarming collision occurred between a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus and a pickup truck in Penn Hills, leaving two individuals hospitalized. The incident, which unfolded in the 12900 block of Frankstown Road near the intersection with Crestview Drive, resulted in the drivers of both vehicles being trapped within their mangled vehicles, reported WTAE.

The collision transpired at approximately 5:30 a.m., triggering the closure of the road for nearly three hours as emergency services toiled to rescue the victims. Penn Hills Volunteer Fire Department stated that the pickup truck driver was found unconscious by first responders. "Both drivers of the vehicles were trapped when they arrived on scene," a volunteer from the fire department stated, as per WPXI.

Subsequently, the injured were transported to hospitals in the area for medical attention. According to WPXI, the driver of the pickup truck is in critical condition at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Oakland. The nature and full extent of the injuries sustained by the bus driver remain unclear. The accident, which also involved a sole bus passenger, saw this individual refuse medical attention at the scene.

Initial reports from Pittsburgh Regional Transit indicate that the pickup driver may have entered the opposing lane, colliding head-on with the bus. As the Pittsburgh Regional Transit Police Department continues its investigation, an official statement has not been issued confirming the cause of the crash.
