Despite initial reports suggesting at least one individual was hurt, FOX19 clarified that two people were hospitalized following the incident. Police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the shooting, adding a layer of uncertainty and anxiety to the community atmosphere.
The shooting took place in the parking lot of the Kirby Apartments, located at 5469 Kirby Avenue. A vehicle with shattered glass was involved in the incident, and it was seized by authorities as part of their investigation, as reported by Local12. The identities and ages of the victims have not been released, nor have details regarding the motive or circumstances leading up to the shooting.
In the wake of the violence, Mitch Morris, an anti-violence advocate and founder of Save Our Youth Kings and Queens, a nonprofit organization, spoke on the devastating impact of such events on the community. "It's horrible, so the biggest thing is we're just trying to be out here running interference between that happening to our youth. Just try to educate them to the fact that what that pistol, what that bullet does to flesh, and what it does to the human being, and let them know before it's too late," Morris told Local12. His organization is committed to preventing violence through education and advocacy – a more urgent mission with each such incident.
