A somber vigil for a teenager killed in Lakewood was disrupted when gunfire erupted, injuring two attendees. The original incident, which claimed the life of a 17-year-old outside Goody's Pizza & Chicken restaurant, occurred Wednesday night, as reported by FOXLA. The victim, whose name has not been disclosed, was fatally shot near Artesia High School on Pioneer and Del Amo boulevards.
The subsequent incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon, during a gathering to remember the slain teen. A man and a woman were struck by gunfire from a black car, believed to contain at least two suspects. Both individuals injured during the vigil are expected to recover, according to the ABC7 report.
Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are actively investigating the potential link between the two shootings. Both incidents took place within the same vicinity, spurring the hypothesis that they may be related in some manner. The department has not yet identified a motive for either shooting and continues to search for the suspects involved.
The Sheriff's Department urges anyone with information to come forward and contact them at 323-890-5500, as per FOXLA.
