Yesterday morning, the quiet was shattered by the sound of gunfire at a Battle Creek playground, leading to the arrest of two men. According to a report by WWMT, witnesses reported seeing the suspects outside an SUV, actively shooting at objects on the playground within an apartment complex.
Responding promptly to the scene around 4 a.m. on the 200 block of Taft Court, Battle Creek Police discovered the vehicle in question and apprehended a 19-year-old driver and a 23-year-old passenger. Standing outside the SUV, officers conducted a traffic stop and found a rifle and ammunition intimately nestled between them.
Following an investigation, 17 shell casings were collected from both the site of the shooting and the suspects' SUV. As reported by the Battle Creek official website, the two men were taken into police custody and now face charges in relation to the firearm possession and discharge.
The situation became more complicated when officers determined the driver was under the influence, adding to his legal issues. With additional charges for driving while intoxicated, he now faces a judicial system already dealing with his previous firearm-related offenses.
