A U-Haul truck driver sustained injuries after a crash resulted in the vehicle plowing into a house in southwest Houston. The incident unfolded on Winleman Street around 9 p.m. yesterday, and according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the truck first collided with another vehicle. The force of the impact was significant enough to leave a substantial hole in the side of the residential structure, reported Click2Houston.
Further investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing, although first responders treated the U-Haul driver at the scene before transporting them to the hospital, with expectations for a full recovery. The home’s residents were present during the incident but, fortunately, did not suffer any injuries, despite the late hour and the sudden disruption into their residence.
Adding to this account, FOX26 Houston disclosed details of the heavy rescue operations initiated by the Community Fire Department aimed at assessing and mitigating the structural damage to the home in question, situated in the Mission Bend neighborhood, this required the essential action of covering the damaged area with a tarp to protect it from additional exposure to the elements.
While official conclusions are still pending, Community FD Captain Samantha Smith stated that the U-Haul driver lost control and crashed into the home. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether another vehicle played a role in the events leading up to the collision.
