Over the weekend, a routine traffic stop became a significant bust for the Union City Police Department. Last Saturday, Officer Moya decided to pull over a motorist for violating a vehicle code, specifically an expired registration for over a year. The stop led to the discovery of suspected drugs and an illegally possessed firearm and the subsequent arrest of the driver, who was found to be a convicted felon. This information was disclosed in a recent social media post by the Union City Police Department.
The incident began innocently but escalated quickly when Officer Moya contacted the driver. After the vehicle's registration issue came to light, the officer proceeded to conduct a search of the driver. The act of searching turned up several bags containing what appeared to be illicit narcotics. Upon further investigation of the vehicle itself, a loaded semi-automatic firearm was located on the rear floorboard.
The driver's status as a felon legally barred him from possessing any firearms. Therefore, the combination of the narcotics and the gun led to the driver being charged and booked in jail for both the drug and firearms violations.
