The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has predicted a warming trend for the Pittsburgh area leading up to Election Day, with the possibility of setting near-record highs on Tuesday. According to the early morning report from the National Weather Service, skies are expected to clear up today after some stratocumulus activity this morning, which should lead to mostly clear conditions and seasonable temperatures throughout the day.
While the forecast for today has remained primarily unchanged, minor updates were included to capture the extent of cloud coverage. These clouds are expected to dissipate as the day progresses, leading to colder temperatures and the potential for freezing conditions tonight, particularly in areas where the clouds have kept the daytime temperatures low. With the incoming clear skies, radiative cooling will likely bring in a freeze tonight.
Looking ahead, from Sunday through Tuesday night, Pittsburgh residents can anticipate dry conditions and a gradual increase in daytime temperatures. The weather discussion also suggests the possibility of wind gusts up to 25 mph on Sunday and Monday, with slightly stronger gusts up to 35 mph by Tuesday, as the region falls in a transition zone between varying pressure systems. This could lead to a slight increase in fire weather concerns despite the anticipated rise in moisture content in the air.
Regarding aviation, the National Weather Service predicts primarily clear skies after some morning cloud activity, with high pressure likely to maintain VFR (Visual Flight Rules) conditions and light winds throughout the weekend. While there is some potential for river valley fog on Sunday morning, any fog occurrence should lift by mid-morning and is not currently affecting TAF (Terminal Aerodrome Forecast) sites as per the forecast.
