Residents of Washington D.C. may be in for a shift in weather patterns as clouds move in, potentially marking the onset of colder, more unsettled conditions, according to the latest forecasts. The National Weather Service reports that today's weather will see increasing clouds with a high near 51 and winds blowing from the west at speeds ranging from 7 to 11 mph and possibly reaching gusts up to 22 mph.
As the evening draws in, the skies are expected to stay only partly cloudy with temperatures dipping to a low around 34 degrees, and although the winds are forecasted to continue their dance from the west at a slightly calmer pace of 7 to 9 mph, they could still rush up to gusts as high as 22 mph.
The approach of Friday is looking less than ideal for those averse to wintry mixes, with the National Weather Service predicting snow to start off the day before 10 am, then a toss-up between rain and snow until early afternoon, following which it plans to settle as rain. A high of 43 degrees is on tap, and while the chance of precipitation stands at 80%, snow accumulation is expected to be minimal. Westerly winds will persist and could ramp up to gusts as high as 26 mph.
Any lingering showers are expected to taper off before 1 am on Friday night with the chances of precipitation dropping to 40%; the clouds are anticipated to part as the night goes on, revealing a low of around 38 while winds from the west blow steadily at around 11 mph, at times gusting up to 21 mph. Washingtonians looking forward to the weekend can expect mostly sunny days with highs in the mid-50s and lows not too far from the mid-40s, offering a mild respite from the previously brisk conditions.
The forecast glimpses ahead to a mostly sunny start to next week, with Monday and Tuesday boasting highs around 60 and 59 degrees, respectively, before the temperature slightly dips midweek, according to National Weather Service website.
