The National Weather Service in Washington D.C. has forecasted a range of weather conditions for the week, providing insights into what residents can expect in terms of weather-related wardrobe decisions and possible commute disruptions. According to the latest update from the NWS, today's weather is set to be partly sunny with a high near 63 degrees and calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the morning.
Tonight's outlook includes scattered showers, primarily before 1 am, with a cloudy sky and a mild low of around 52 degrees. Light southeast wind will accompany a 30% chance of precipitation. While the wind stays calm, residents should prepare for potential evening wetness that may affect late-night activities or the tail-end of the commute home.
The NWS also predicts that Wednesday will see a slight chance of showers before 7 am, and then a chance of showers after 1 pm. The mostly cloudy skies will hover over a high near 66, with the calm wind picking up to southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Residents should be prepared for possible showers with a 40% chance of precipitation.
Heavy showers are expected primarily before 1 am on Wednesday night, with temperatures dropping to a low around 41. Winds shifting from southeast to west in the evening could intensify, potentially gusting as high as 31 mph, while the chance of precipitation jumps to 90%. This significant increase could result in new precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch, which NWS advises may impact travel conditions.
Looking ahead, the NWS anticipates that there will be a slight chance of showers continuing into Thursday after 1 pm with partly sunny conditions and a high near 50. Winds could remain strong with west wind 10 to 14 mph, and gusts that could reach as high as 28 mph. As the weekend approaches, the weather seems to relent slightly, with partly sunny days and mostly cloudy nights holding temperatures in the high 40s to low 50s, providing some reprieve from the earlier wet and windy conditions.
