A senior educator from a Northwest Washington D.C. early education center finds himself on the wrong side of the law, after being charged with attempted coercion and enticement of a minor. James S. Carroll, 55, the head of school, faced his initial court appearance on November 19, following his arrest, as announced by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and FBI Acting Special Agent in Charge David Geist.

Carroll found himself ensnared in an undercover operation that employed the Discord messaging app, believing he was communicating with a parent ready to exploit their child at his direction. The criminal complaint details a disturbing two-week period from November 5, 2024, to November 14, 2024, during which the allegations unfolded. "Carroll directed the undercover officer to abuse his child over a period of approximately two weeks," according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Investigative efforts by the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, along with co-operation from the Metropolitan Police Department, were crucial in tracing the IP addresses linked to Carroll's digital communications. These traces led back to Carroll's residence and his place of employment, solidifying the connection between him and the offending Discord account.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen Shinskie is leading the prosecution of Carroll's case, which remains under tight scrutiny by law enforcement. The public is reminded by officials to remain vigilant and report any signs of child exploitation by calling the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
