Washington Spirit supporters, mark your calendars and plan your routes—the Fan Appreciation Rally is here, with a host of street closures and parking restrictions. Scheduled for today, the event is expected to draw crowds and congest the streets of the District of Columbia, according to a traffic advisory from the Metropolitan Police Department.
Emergency No-Parking zones will be enforced from noon to 11:00 p.m. on various streets, including parts of Potomac Avenue, R Street, S Street, T Street, Half Street, V Street, and First Street and 2nd Street. S Street between First and Half Street will be particularly affected—it will be closed to vehicles from approximately 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Motorists parked in violation of the emergency no-parking signs can expect to be ticketed and towed.
DC Police Traffic advises the public through their X feed for real-time updates. With the rally underway, sudden changes are possible, and any adjustments to the traffic plans will be based on the conditions of the moment. Streets, including Potomac Avenue, parts of R, T, Half, and V streets, and First and 2nd streets, might be closed off if deemed necessary for public safety.
Given the expected influx of fans, authorities advise drivers to seek alternate routes to avoid delays. Safety concerns are paramount as a significant increase in pedestrian traffic is likely. The D.C. Department of Transportation echoes the sentiment, encouraging drivers to be particularly cautious in the vicinity of the rally.
