Tragedy struck early yesterday morning in West Houston as a mother and her toddler were found dead in an apartment complex, with the suspect being the brother and uncle to the victims. According to a statement obtained by KPRC 2, Joanna Fischer, the mother of the suspect and victim, expressed her belief that her son was under the influence of laced drugs, leading him to commit the heinous act.
Officers arrived at the Knox at Westchase Apartments on Richmond Avenue to discover a scene marked by blood and a man with blood on him, who was promptly taken into custody. The deceased woman, believed to be in her late 20s, and her young daughter, between two and four years old, were discovered inside the residence. Fischer disclosed to FOX 26 Houston that she had previously reported her son's violent tendencies to police and feels a desperate frustration with the law enforcement's response, or lack thereof.
"He threatened the whole family to kill," Fischer told FOX 26 Houston, articulating a history of violence that culminated in tragedy. The weekend before the fatal incident, Fischer had reportedly warned police about her son's violent actions, pleading for appropriate measures to be taken in response to his aggression and his recent release from jail.
While no charges have been filed yet, the police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the deaths. Joanna Fischer's heart-breaking account of the events suggests that this calamity could have been prevented. "If they would have did what the f*** they was supposed to do, my family would be still up there, my grandbaby," she said in an interview with FOX 26 Houston, leaving us to ponder on the efficacy of the systems meant to protect society's most vulnerable.
