The White Settlement Police Department is launching a new initiative to bridge gaps between law enforcement and the local Spanish-speaking community. In a recent social media announcement, the department revealed that Corporal Laura Gonzalez will conduct its upcoming Winter Citizens Police Academy. The program, set to begin on Thursday, December 5, is an 8-week course tailored to "foster relationships, educate the community of what the department does, and lead to future volunteer opportunities with the agency," as stated in the post from White Settlement Police Department's Facebook page.
This specialized iteration of the Citizens Police Academy is a direct response to several requests from the community and will be taught entirely in Spanish. Interested individuals can sign up by contacting Corporal Gonzalez at [email protected] or the general department email [email protected]. The program aims to increase accessibility and understanding of police work within the Spanish-speaking community, acknowledging a need for inclusivity and open communication.
The Winter Citizens Police Academy's conclusion will be marked by a graduation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the Pecan Grove Convention Center.
