In a recent operation by Wilmington Police, a 16-year-old male suspect has been arrested and a stolen firearm seized. The incident, stemming from a gun investigation, unfolded on the evening of November 2 in the 2700 block of Bowers Street. It was there that police officers attempted to approach the teenager, who then fled on foot triggering a short chase, as per the information released by Wilmington Police.
Nabbed without further incident, the young male now faces several charges which include Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, and Resisting Arrest. The weapon in question, a loaded .380-caliber handgun, had gone missing out of Virginia. The officers were able to recover it, still loaded, when they arrested the suspect who fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody without incident.
The events leading to the suspect's arraignment in New Castle County Family Court unfolded promptly, and he was consequently committed to the New Castle County Detention Center. The bail has been firmly set at $20,500, cash-only, reflecting the seriousness of the offenses with which he has been charged.
Reflecting the ongoing challenges that law enforcement faces in the tide of gun-related crimes, the swift apprehension of the suspect underscores the diligent efforts of the officers involved. The teenager, subjected to the legal process designed for juveniles, remains unnamed due to his age, facing grave accusations that mar the onset of his adulthood.
