Early Saturday morning, a report of a shooting drew Austin Police to a residence on Rutland Drive where they found a white female victim, yet to be identified, fatally wounded. According to Austin Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 4:07 a.m., and despite the efforts of emergency responders, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:37 a.m.
Police detained Noah Mata, 36, after it was determined the gunshot had originated from his apartment. As per officials, the fatal shot was allegedly fired as Mata attempted to disarm another male in his residence. The stray bullet tragically ended the life of the female in the neighboring apartment. Mata is now facing charges of 1st Degree Aggravated Robbery and is currently being held in Travis County jail.
