A Houston neighborhood was impacted Sunday night when a woman was shot on her porch in the Heights area, police say. The woman, in her 20s, was reportedly shot in the torso, and a small fire was set on her porch, according to Click2Houston. Neighbors were able to put out the fire before it spread beyond a three-foot doll on the porch.
The unusual incident was reported just before 10 p.m. near Oxford Street, close to East 11th, involving both a shooting and an intentionally set fire. The victim, who was found at the scene, was transported to a nearby trauma center and is expected to survive her injuries. Police have not yet released information about a suspect or motive, though witnesses reported hearing between five and seven gunshots, "boom, boom, boom, boom, boom," according to Thomas Frank, a local resident who lives near the home, in an interview with KHOU.
Following the shooting, witnesses reported seeing a red Camry speeding away from the scene on Oxford Street. The Houston Police Department confirmed that the woman doesn't reside at the home where the shooting occurred, KHOU reported. There have been no arrests made yet in connection to the shooting, and the search for further information continues.
