As the holiday season approaches, Wright County is offering residents an eco-friendly way to dispose of their old Christmas lights. Rather than throwing out broken or outdated strands of lights, residents can recycle them at the Government Center (3650 Braddock Ave. NE, Buffalo). The county has set up a convenient drop-off box on the first floor for easy access.
According to a recent announcement from Wright County Planning & Zoning, this initiative aims to reduce hazardous waste in landfills by recovering valuable materials like copper, plastic, and even lead from old lights. Last year, Wright County collected 1,713 pounds of Christmas lights and is looking to surpass that total this holiday season.
The recycling program isn't just a seasonal effort—residents can drop off old holiday lights year-round at the Wright County Compost & Recycling Center, free of charge. This initiative highlights the county’s commitment to sustainability and provides a simple way for residents to contribute to a greener holiday season.
