Tragedy struck early Thanksgiving morning in Pasco County when a 24-year-old Zephyrhills man was killed in a vehicular crash. According to WTSP, the accident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. on the 3700 block of Coats Road.
In an early morning that destabilized a family, the Florida Highway Patrol reported that the Chevy Tahoe, driven by the now-deceased man, hit a patch of "large tree debris" on the road. The collision sent the vehicle into a deadly spin, where it struck two mailboxes, before it overturned tragically. The FOX 13 News account of the event indicated the crash happened just north of Chancey Road, near Zephyrhills.
The driver, whose identity has not been publicly released, was ejected from the Tahoe during the accident and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Remarkably, a 20-year-old passenger from Dade City who was also in the SUV at the time of the crash escaped injury, according to WFLA.
Details surrounding the fatal incident continue to emerge. The Chevy Tahoe "came upon and collided with large tree debris in the roadway," after driving south on Coats Road, FOX 13 News noted, providing a description that matches the accounts given by other local news outlets. The aftermath of the crash, involving the forcible ejection of the driver, underscores the violence of the impact and the tragic brevity of life.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the formation of debris on the road that became a deadly hazard.
