A 12-year-old boy was critically injured following what police are calling an "accidental shooting" at a St. Petersburg apartment complex on Monday evening. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. at the James Park Apartments at 1050 3rd Ave. North, as stated by the WFLA News.
Upon arrival, St. Petersburg Police discovered the young boy with a gunshot wound. He was promptly transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, located in St. Pete, with his condition being described as critical. The details surrounding the shooting are scarce, however, authorities have mentioned that the shooting appears to be accidental. No information regarding how the shooting transpired or the ownership of the gun involved was available at the time, the FOX 13 News reported.
This unfortunate event has prompted an investigation by the local police, ongoing. According to WTSP, the St. Petersburg Police Department has not yet provided any further insight into the circumstances leading up to the shooting or any measures they might be taking to prevent such incidents in the future.
