A 12-year-old girl was injured by a stray bullet, likely from celebratory gunfire, on Tuesday night in southwest Houston. She was shot in the leg while walking with her mother near an apartment complex on Glenmont Drive, as reported by KHOU.
After the shooting, a neighbor drove the mother and her wounded daughter to the hospital. The car was involved in a minor collision due to wet roads, but there were no additional injuries. Houston police responded, and the situation was handled appropriately. "Everyone stayed on the scene, and everything was handled appropriately," Houston Police Department Sgt. Ali told KHOU.
The Houston Fire Department quickly took an injured girl and her mother to a trauma center, and the girl's condition has stabilized. The Houston Police Department is investigating the source of the gunfire and warned against celebratory shootings. As Houston Police Department's Sgt. Ali said, "We just want everybody to be safe. People want to be outside and have a good time, but we ask that they do so safely," as stated by FOX 26 Houston.
