A young man, presumed to be around 20 years old, met a violent end in a shootout in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood last night. The incident, as reported by NBC Philadelphia, occurred around 9:20 p.m. along the 700 block of East Willard Street. Police responded to the scene of a tumultuous gun battle between three individuals.
Despite the immediate medical attention administered, the young man was pronounced dead at 9:41 p.m. at Temple Hospital. According to the information from FOX 29 News, he suffered a fatal chest wound. His identity has yet to be released, leaving us with the placeholder name of a John Doe, commonly used until the police can inform next of kin and release details to the public.
In the aftermath of the shooting, two individuals have been taken into police custody. Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace shared with NBC Philadelphia the details: after the initial shootout, the suspects were seen smashing the windows of a nearby home before running out the backdoor, only to be captured soon after. The nature of the confrontation, motives, and identities of the two suspects remain under investigation.
A weapon was recovered on the scene, and, as per the reports reaching us from CBS News Philadelphia, authorities found 21 spent shell casings in the area.
