
A tragic car crash in east Charlotte resulted in the death of a young man during the early hours of Sunday morning. According to WCNC, the victim was identified as 21-year-old Yeferson Orozco Velasquez.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported to the scene around 3 a.m. on North Sharon Amity Road, where they found Velasquez's car, a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro, had collided with a tree in the median, as per a statement obtained by WBTV.
Investigators revealed that Velasquez was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed before losing control of his vehicle. Sadly, not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, when he struck the tree, he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel, as stated in the reports by WSOC-TV. The circumstances surrounding why Velasquez was speeding or whether impairment played a role in the collision currently remain uncertain.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is actively investigating the incident and has called upon the public to assist by providing any information they might have regarding the matter.
