Earlier this morning, a massive pileup on the Boulevard of the Allies ramp in Pittsburgh resulted in emergency services scrambling to the scene. Twenty-two vehicles were caught in a chaotic accident leading to the Forbes Avenue ramp, with icy conditions reported as a likely culprit for the mishap, as WTAE reported.
The pileup, which unfolded around 6:20 a.m., blocked off the ramp and required the attention of multiple emergency vehicles. A morning commute turned into a disaster zone, with drivers and passengers navigating an icy gauntlet on the roadway. Five people were sent to the hospital with injuries deemed minor, according to a report by WPXI.
With several vehicles left incapacitated and in need of towing from the site, the cause of the crash, while not definitively ascertained, is believed by authorities to have been provoked by the difficult weather conditions, specifically, the icy roads that plagued Pittsburghers throughout the morning.
