On a late night in November, Columbus became the scene of yet another act of violence that cut a life short. Columbus Division of Police responded to a shooting report in the 2900 block of Dana Dr., where they found a man, later identified as Robert "Roderick" Smith, fatally shot while sitting in a van. The victim was pronounced deceased by CFD Medic 20 at 1:59 AM, just 16 minutes after the police were summoned to the sad scene on Saturday, November 16.
Witnesses have given conflicting reports on the suspect's escape plan, with some claiming foot while others allege a white car was involved. In light of these events, law enforcement is urging locals with surveillance cameras covering the specified area to review their footage and upload any pertinent videos or images that might aid the investigation to a dedicated portal.
In their search for truth and justice, detectives have made headway. 24-year-old James Locke has been charged with murder in connection to the death of Smith. "Detectives have charged James Locke, 24, with Murder for causing Smith’s death," revealed a Columbus Division of Police statement. As of now, Locke is being held at the Franklin County Jail, waiting for the wheels of justice to churn.
Columbus Police Department remains committed to unearthing all details surrounding the tragic event. Residents who need information that might shed light on the homicide are encouraged to reach out to Detective Johnson, who is spearheading the investigation with the assistance of Detective Polgar. Whether it be a clang of conscience or a whisper of humanity, those in the know can relay their knowledge anonymously through Central Ohio Crime Stoppers or by direct communication with the detectives.
