South Los Angeles faced a significant challenge last evening as LAFD firefighters took on a substantial blaze at a local tire shop. The fire was reported at approximately 8:35 p.m. at the 7200 block of Avalon Boulevard, CBS News reports. It was no small feat for the 42 firefighters who managed to extinguish the fire. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department's alert, it took 37 minutes to bring the fire under control, and clouds of black smoke lingered in the air well after the flames had been subdued. The response team faced a significant trial by fire as the structure, erected in 1958, posed its own set of challenges given its age and potential hazards.
The incident did not cause any injuries or damage to surrounding structures, a fortunate outcome given the circumstances. "There were no other structures damaged and no injuries reported," the LAFD stated.
