
The Westmoreland County coroner has identified the man killed in a collision on the New Kensington bypass last night. Richard Kern, a 69-year-old man, died at the scene after his vehicle was involved in a crash along Route 56 near the 366 bypass.
According to WTAE, the incident occurred near Memorial Park by Craigdell Road. New Kensington police have stated that additional details will be provided at their discretion, leaving the community waiting for further information.
WPXI reported that the fatal head-on crash happened on the 366/56 bypass ramp leading to Route 56 at 3:05 p.m. Kern was reportedly driving eastbound when he crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming vehicle, resulting in his death by blunt force injuries.
The crash also injured another person, who was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The New Kensington police, investigating the crash, remarked that the area around Memorial Park by Craigdell Road was to be closed for an undetermined period.
