A 71-year-old man from Burbank, Illinois, lost his life following a massive pileup on Interstate 94. The incident, which included 14 passenger vehicles and three semi-trucks, occurred near mile marker 46 in Hartford Township. Michigan State Police (MSP) indicated that the severe weather created whiteout conditions on the roadway, although speed relative to those conditions played a role in the accidents, as reported by FOX 17.
The events unfolded on the afternoon of Monday last week during a heavy snowstorm that severely limited visibility. In addition to the pileup, 15 vehicles were reported to have slid off the road, according to audacy.
The Illinois man who succumbed to his injuries was transported to Grand Rapids Spectrum Health Hospital, where he passed away the following day, despite prompt medical attention. While his identity remains undisclosed, multiple sources, including WoodTV, confirmed he was from Burbank. The incident is still under investigation by Michigan State Police.
