An 81-year-old man has died following a traffic incident in the Keaaumoku area of Honolulu, where the crash occurred on the evening last Saturday. According to a report by KITV, the elderly pedestrian was navigating the crosswalk at the intersection of Rycroft Street and Ahana Street, when he was hit by a vehicle driven by a 57-year-old individual. The Honolulu Police Department has confirmed that an investigation into the collision is underway.
Though the victim was taken to a hospital and initially reported to be in good condition, his health deteriorated, leading to his death this Tuesday, as Hawaii News Now lamented. Authorities have stated that the driver involved in the accident did not sustain any injuries, and preliminary findings suggested that neither speed, drugs nor alcohol, were significant elements in the unfortunate event.
This recent fatality signifies the 52nd traffic-related death in the city for the year, a close figure when compared to the count of 54 noted at this same juncture in the previous year. The HPD's Traffic Division continues its investigation.
