A recent collision at the intersection of East Lake Mead Boulevard and Mt. Hood Street claimed the life of an 81-year-old woman, marking the 154th traffic-related fatality within the jurisdiction of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) for the year 2024. According to a report by LVMPD, the incident occurred on December 3 when a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze driven by Margarita McNamara, 70, ran a red light and was struck by a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan operated by Jennifer Randle, 25.
The crash resulted in moderate injuries for both drivers, as well as two passengers in the Dodge, Destiny Carranza, 21, and an unnamed juvenile. Another juvenile passenger in the Dodge was unharmed. Editha Oyamot, the passenger in McNamara's vehicle, was immediately transported to UMC Trauma. Her injuries, initially not meeting the criteria for a response by LVMPD's Fatal Detail, began to fatally worsen over the following days. McNamara and the injured passengers declined to seek further medical attention at the scene.
A notification from the Clark County Coroner's Office to the LVMPD Fatal Detail last Thursday confirmed that Oyamot died at UMC Hospital. The LVMPD's Collision Investigation Section is continuing to investigate the incident. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
