A 9-year-old boy in Laurel, Maryland, is currently fighting for his life after being critically injured in a townhouse fire. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to the blaze on the 8500 block of Crooked Tree Lane last night. According to FOX Baltimore, firefighters found a smoldering fire on the second floor of the three-story structure upon arrival.
Firefighters managed to contain the fire quickly, but not before it caused serious injury to the child, who was subsequently taken to a hospital. A Maryland State Trooper Police helicopter was needed to quickly transport the boy to the hospital for the life-threatening injuries he sustained. Besides the child, a woman was also present in the home during the incident and was evaluated by emergency personnel, but she declined further medical treatment, as reported by WUSA9.
While the immediate aftermath focused on aid and rescue efforts, the cause of this harrowing event remains under investigation. Officials have not determined the inciting incident that led to such destruction and peril. Both local news sources indicate that authorities are actively probing to find clues that will shed light on the origin and cause of the fire.
