Two small dogs, left in unfortunate circumstances, have luckily found themselves under the protective wing of a local shelter in Allegheny County. The White Oak Animal Safe Haven reported that the dogs were discovered taped up inside boxes at the White Oak Giant Eagle, a revelation that's both shocking and saddening, as WPXI detailed.
It appears the dogs were left to be found serendipitously around yesterday afternoon when a passerby took notice and decisively brought them to safety. The shelter's animal care specialist, Mackenzie Demme, recounted the initial confusion, which turned into a realization that life was stirring within the sealed cardboard when she said, per CBS News Pittsburgh, "I had trouble understanding him at first. And then when it dawned on me that the boxes were moving, I realized there's dogs in there."
The current condition of the dogs signals neglect but not necessarily outright abuse. "Nails are a bit long. But other than that, they seem healthy and well-fed," Mackenzie Demme stated, as reported by CBS News Pittsburgh. She highlighted the shelters' dilemma with overcapacity and the increasing number of abandoned animals.
