Leaders in Adams County are on the lookout for some exceptional young people. The call has been put out for nominations for the 2025 Adams County Mayors and Commissioners Youth Awards (ACMCYA), an initiative that shines a light on young individuals who have overcome significant obstacles. Emphasizing the triumphs amidst adversity, this award is about celebrating youth who have not only transformed their circumstances but also served as a beacon for others to follow.
This annual recognition is open to students in grades 6-12 and up to 20 years old, catering to those who've made inspiring changes in their lives despite personal challenges. It's a community affair, businesses and civic leaders are encouraged to lend their support, either through nominations or by donating, manifesting their allegiance to the youth. According to the City of Brighton, "If you know of an individual who has had this impact on others but is not in a school setting, those nominations will also be accepted."
The ACMCYA isn't just an award, it's an opportunity for businesses and community figures to engage and acknowledge the achievements of these young trailblazers. It represents a communal pat on the back, a consensus that despite life's vicissitudes, there is room to grow and succeed. Those interested in nominating can fill out an online form, with a final deadline set for January 31, 2025. However, swift action is encouraged.
