Terry Shaw, who has helmed AdventHealth as its President and CEO, is preparing to step down. With a career extending over four decades with the Altamonte Springs-headquartered nonprofit health system, Shaw announced his retirement set for July 2025 via a video message to the company's employees on December 13. In his statement, he cited the decision as a move to make room for younger leaders within the organization.
Reflecting on a career begun four decades prior, Shaw noted the unexpected rewards accompanying his lengthy tenure. "When I joined AdventHealth over 40 years ago, I never imagined the profound joy, challenges and sense of purpose this career would bring," Shaw said in a video, as reported by WFTV. Emphasizing the significance of the organization's faith-based mission, he added, "Our mission of providing whole-person care as a faith-based organization has always been more than just a brand promise — it has been the core of everything we do."
Shaw has seen AdventHealth expand its reach and influence in the healthcare industry during his tenure. His impending departure does not, however, leave the organization leaderless. AdventHealth asserts a "long-term succession plan" is in place to secure an “internal successor” by April 2025, as indicated by a news release by FOX 35 Orlando. However, the specifics of this plan and potential candidates have yet to be publicly disclosed.
