Akron authorities have announced an upgrade in charges to murder for Travey Goodwin, 33, after the death of his mother, who succumbed to injuries from an alleged domestic violence incident. According to Fox8, the altercation occurred on Monday at a residence on the 1000 block of Brittain Road, where the 56-year-old victim, not yet publicly identified, was found with serious bodily harm, including multiple lacerations.
Initially apprehended and charged with felonious assault and domestic violence, Goodwin's charges were heightened following the confirmation of his mother's death on Wednesday. He remains jailed on a $100,000 bond. Despite his arraignment scheduled for Tuesday, he has been uncooperative with the ongoing criminal proceedings for three consecutive days, according to court records, and no new court dates have been established. In reporting the development, WKYC notes that Goodwin's charges were upgraded after the review of evidence and consultation with the prosecutor's office.
The Akron Police learned of the victim's allegations against her son while she was in serious condition at a local hospital; unfortunately, she passed away yesterday as a result of the injuries sustained. The Akron Police Department is continuing its investigation into the circumstances of the alleged murder, as confirmed by Cleveland19.
Following the arrest, which took place at a house on the 500 block of Schiller Avenue, the charged individual is now in custody at the Summit County Jail. The future of this case is yet to unfold as police further probe the tragic occurrence.
