Alert Locals and Law Enforcement Apprehend Suspects in Elderly Robbery Spree in Rancho CucamongaSource: Rancho Cucamonga Police Department

A group of perpetrators targeting the elderly in Southern California has been apprehended thanks to the actions of attentive locals. The incident occurred last Thursday, when two women and a man attempted to rob an elderly female in the 10000 block of Foothill Boulevard in Rancho Cucamonga, attempting to snatch her jewelry right off her person, KTLA reports.

These Good Samaritans intervened, prompting the suspects to flee in a waiting vehicle. San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene around 10:25 a.m., "On Thursday, December 5, 2024, at approximately 10:23 A.M.," according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's Department. The swift response led to the capture of Maria Caldarau, 30, Miheala Gardian, 35, and Ovidiu Alexandri Stan, 33, all residents of Fullerton, roughly two miles from where the first crime took place.

Further investigation revealed that two of the apprehended individuals, Caldarau and Stan, were already wanted on warrants for related offenses in other counties, as reported by authorities and detailed in a news release from the SBSD. They faced charges including attempted robbery, theft against an elderly person, and conspiracy to commit a crime, the Sheriff's Department pointed out.

Detectives believe there could be more victims yet to come forward, thus, photos of the suspects have been disseminated in the hopes that other individuals will identify them and report crimes. "Detectives beleive there may be additional victims and are releasing photos of the three suspects," stated the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station, as released by Nixle. Anyone with further information pertaining to these cases is encouraged to contact the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station, while those preferring to remain anonymous might choose to reach out to the We-Tip Hotline or leave a tip on their website.
