Huron Township police have apprehended a suspect related to a home invasion and sexual assault incident that occurred last Friday. The suspect, a 50-year-old man from Allen Park, was arrested at his residence after allegations of a crime reported from the 36000 block of Violet Street, FOX 2 Detroit reports.
Investigations revealed that the suspect was acquainted with the victim, although initial reports suggested the contrary. In response to the significant delay in reporting the crime, the Public Safety Director Everette Robbins stated, "For various reasons there was a significant delay in reporting, so we had to work with the information that was available to us" , according to a statement obtained by clickondetroit. Robbins further reassured the public “We want to make it clear that this was not a random crime."
The investigation initially came to light when Huron Township police were alerted to the incident, which occurred in the early hours of a Saturday morning. Acknowledging the early stages of the case, authorities urged residents to secure their homes and review any potential surveillance footage. The Huron Township Police Department emphasized community vigilance and cooperation, according to CBS News Detroit.
Following the arrest, Robbins explained the department's approach by stating, "We would always rather overreact than underreact when it comes to the safety of our community." He went on to commend the collective efforts of the police force and the support from township authorities, as noted by FOX 2 Detroit, "We all understood the assignment, the importance of the situation, and realize the affect something like this can have on the feeling of safety and security for a community."
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has not yet reviewed the charges against the individual. In the meantime, Huron Township police are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward to help with the investigation.
