An Anne Arundel County Police officer has found himself on the wrong side of the law after being charged with driving under the influence. As reported by WMAR-2 News, Corporal S. Dolan, a 10-year veteran of the force assigned to the Bureau of Community Services, was arrested yesterday by a Maryland State Trooper in Queen Anne's County.
Following the arrest, the Anne Arundel County Police Department swiftly suspended Corporal Dolan without pay. This administrative action signals the department's strict stance on personal conduct among its officers. However, as pointed out by CBS News Baltimore, this isn't an isolated occurrence within the department. Just weeks prior, in early December, two other Anne Arundel officers found themselves indicted over a fatal crash that transpired during a high-speed chase in 2023.
The deadly chase, which resulted in the death of a car passenger and left the driver hospitalized, has brought significant scrutiny to the department's policies and oversight. Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown stated that the car pursued by the officers crashed into a utility pole. In the fallout, the officers, Corporal K. Schnell and Corporal E. Vasquez faced charges of misconduct in office for allegedly misleading their superiors and engaging in the chase without proper authorization.
