As the frost of winter begins to deepen, so too does the community's anticipation for the annual Winter Reading Challenge set to commence with the first dawn of 2025. According to an announcement by Anoka County, bibliophiles young and old are invited to join in a celebration of literature, starting January 1st and extending until the last gasp of February.
Participants are encouraged to download the Beanstack Tracker app, a tool for logging each book consumed, as if they were amassing a nourishing spread for the mind. With this app, patrons can also share reviews, creating a community tapestry of literary critique. Engaging with the app's features unlocks digital badges and reveals bonus levels, adding a gamified twist to the classic enjoyment of reading.
Anoka County libraries are not just asking residents to turn pages in solitude, but also to mark their calendars for the 8th Annual Featured Author Fair. Hosted at Northtown Library on March 1st, the fair is earmarked as the cornerstone event of the entire Winter Reads program. Beginning with an address by best-selling author William Kent Krueger at 10:00 AM, attendees will have the opportunity afterwards to mingle with a cadre of local authors, collecting autographs and memories with equal fervor.
The Author Fair promises a chance to meet the minds behind the books, to purchase directly from the hands that penned the tales. "Don’t miss Anoka County’s literary event of the year, the highlight of Winter Reads," heralds the county's call to the public. Readers across Anoka are invited to plunge into the pleasure of the written word, to immerse themselves in stories tall and true, as they ride out the winter under the cozy blanket of a good book.
