The Antioch community was on high alert after a shooting incident that triggered a shelter-in-place order, but it has since been lifted following police interventions. According to a press release by the Antioch Police Department, the event transpired yesterday when officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 4700 block of Knoll Park Circle around 6:35 p.m. Upon arrival, they learned of an attack where Marlon Wheeler, aged 30, opened fire on his 37-year-old girlfriend.
The report further details that the victim, along with her three children, managed to escape without harm. However, the altercation led to a stray bullet hitting a nearby residence and vehicle. Officers assessed that Wheeler, the alleged shooter, had barricaded himself inside the home, initiating a standoff. The police department's SWAT and Crisis Negotiations teams were mobilized to facilitate Wheeler's peaceful surrender.
For hours, law enforcement attempted to re-establish communication with Wheeler but could not convince him to leave the premises peacefully. The SWAT team eventually entered the residence, only to find that Wheeler had already fled the scene. Following this discovery, the shelter-in-place order was lifted around 1:00 a.m.
The police are continuing their search for Wheeler and consider him armed and dangerous. The Antioch Police Department urges anyone with information on Wheeler's whereabouts to come forward and contact them directly. Moreover, the public is advised not to approach Wheeler if seen but instead to alert authorities. The Brentwood Police Department also received acknowledgment for their support during the incident, providing an armored rescue vehicle to aid in managing the situation.
