An Arlington community is grappling with the aftermath of a tragic accident that led to the death of an individual who stopped to assist a stranded driver. The incident, which occurred last Saturday morning around 1 a.m., involved multiple pedestrians and vehicles, resulting in one fatality and two individuals being hospitalized, as per FOX4 News.
Responding to the scene at N. Watson Road near State Highway 360, Arlington police discovered a 31-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman on the ground who had been struck by a vehicle. The man, later identified as Tyler White, was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. The woman, alongside a 34-year-old who had to be extricated from her BMW X1, is reported to be in critical condition, NBC DFW reported. The details of the incident recount a 2016 Hyundai Veloster veering off the road, after which family members were called to assist.
Tyler White had arrived in a 2004 GMC Yukon, parking in the right lane to aid with a tow cable as the BMW, traveling at high speeds, collided with both the Yukon and the pedestrians. While investigations by the Arlington Police Department are ongoing, they have yet to conclude whether alcohol played a factor in the crash. No charges have been filed at this time.
Breya White, Tyler's wife, described the wrenching series of events in an interview with NBC DFW. "I'm devastated. I'm in shock. Like, it's unbelievable," she said. She recalled the evening beginning with a holiday party, advancing to an attempt to help a friend whose car slid off the road, and ending in a nightmare. After she witnessed the crash from the Yukon, Breya rushed to her husband's side, hoping against hope. "He was breathing, so I thought there was hope," she sadly recounted. Police informed her at the hospital that her husband did not survive, leading to a last, sorrowful goodbye.
The deceased was celebrated for his generosity and helpful spirit. "He was so selfless. He loved helping people. He was like, 'Oh, it's not a big deal. If I could do it, I'm going to do it," Breya explained, per NBC DFW. Tyler White, an airplane mechanic with a fondness for aviation, hunting, and fishing, leaves behind three children and his wife, as they prepare for a Christmas overshadowed by grief and the daunting prospect of funeral arrangements.
