The Arlington community is still grappling with the aftermath of a deadly shooting that occurred on November 23 at an apartment rented through Airbnb. The incident left two young lives tragically cut short: 19-year-old Alexis Johniyah Tyler and her boyfriend, Dayton Allen, who was celebrating his 20th birthday. Fox4News reported that Arlington police are actively seeking witnesses and encourage anyone with information to step forward.
According to details released by FOX 4 News, the police have been working to piece together the circumstances of the shooting, which took place in the 900 block of Slaughter Street in Arlington’s Entertainment District. "It’s just really bad because we haven't found the person who did this. That is what has hurt me the most," John Tyler, Alexis' father, said. Witnesses reportedly heard gunshots and saw several people fleeing the scene. The suspects are believed to have left in a white sedan.
Arlington police spokesperson Tim Ciesco expressed the gravity of the crime to Fox4News stating, "This wasn’t just one person firing one shot and running out. This was someone who absolutely intended to kill and harm people." The family of Alexis Tyler, who was studying to become a medical assistant, described her as a straight-A student and "a good child all around" in remembrance of her life. Her mother, Ruth Cole, lamented in a statement, as per FOX 4 News.
The Star-Telegram also shared the Allen family's heartache, with Ebony Allen recalling her son Dayton, whom she called "Day Day," as a "ray of sunshine." "He could walk into a dark building and light it up," she said in a Fort Worth Star-Telegram interview. Dayton Allen aspired to a future where his music could support his family, a dream cruelly stolen in the violent attack. It's understood that Robbery has been ruled out as a motive with police believing the suspect knew both victims.
