A fatal shooting occurred last Wednesday at a north Arlington motel, ending with a man dead, who police say was armed with a knife and holding it to another individual. Officers were called to the Motel 6 on the 900 block of North Collins Street following a 911 report of a man causing a loud disturbance, CBS News reports.

Police arrived around 1:05 a.m. to the sounds of yelling. They began to search to find the source of the noise, and upon locating the room, they attempted to force entry after hearing calls for help and receiving no response. "Due to no response and hearing someone yell for help, the officers attempted to force entry into the room," Arlington Police spokesperson Lt. Courtney White said, as per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The situation they discovered was fraught with danger; inside, a man, later identified as 34-year-old Edgar Ivan Ayala Garcia, was spotted holding a knife against another man who had apparent cuts on his arm. The officers instructed Garcia to drop the knife multiple times, but instead, he continued to aggressively engage with the victim. Police said both officers fired their service weapons, striking the suspect, who was then rendered first aid but ultimately succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

The victim's encounters with Garcia began when he opened his door upon hearing the commotion the suspect was causing; the two individuals did not know each other. The confrontation at the motel may have preceded an earlier incident involving a man reportedly throwing around trash cans in the same area, leading police to believe they may have been dealing with the same suspect.
