Once the jolly jingles subside and the festive lights dim, Arlington gears up for its annual Christmas tree recycling program. Locals looking to sustainably dispose of their seasonal fir, spruce, or pine can make use of two free drop-off locations from Dec. 26 through Jan. 15, 2025. The Arlington Landfill, situated at 800 Mosier Valley Road, will be open for recycling Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., according to the City of Arlington.
For those residing in the southern part of the city, the Arlington Landfill may pose an inconvenient trek. Enter Calloway's Nursery, your South Arlington savior at 4940 S. Cooper St., where Christmas trees can be dropped off daily between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Trees must be prepped for recycling correctly: decorations, stands, and, yes, even those stubborn nails need to be removed. Get it right and your discarded tree won’t end up as mere trash, but rather, a part of the spring's free mulch bounty.
Additional information about the program can be found on the official Arlington website, complete with all the 'need-to-knows' for ensuring your Christmas greenery keeps giving even after the season's exit. For direct inquiries, the Arlington Action Center at 817-459-6777 stands ready to field your call. Indeed, even a tree once adorned with glittering lights and family ornaments can hold a post-Christmas purpose.
